SUMMARY:Demystifying the Forensic Interview
DESCRIPTION:For multidisciplinary team (MDT) partners and protective caregivers\, the forensic interview process can often feel opaque or disconnected from frontline support. Demystifying the Forensic Interview\, presented by Children’s Advocacy Centers of Washington in partnership with CAC Resources\, provides a comprehensive\, transparent examination of the forensic interview and its foundational role in child abuse investigations. \nThis virtual training explores how developmental science\, evidence-based questioning\, and trauma-informed principles intersect to support children while establishing legally defensible statements. Participants will gain practical insight into interview room dynamics\, protocol standards\, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. \nIntended Audience\nVictim advocates\, Child Protective Services caseworkers\, law enforcement investigators\, prosecutors\, mental health clinicians\, and CAC team members across Washington State. \nKey Learning Objectives\n\nFoundational Interview Mechanics: Understand the structure of open-ended\, non-leading interview protocols designed to elicit authentic\, detailed disclosures.\nDevelopmental and Trauma Dynamics: Examine how neurobiology\, developmental stage\, and trauma-related memory fragmentation influence a child’s communication during an interview.\nCourtroom Defensibility: Recognize how strict adherence to interview protocols protects statements against defense challenges regarding suggestibility\, coaching\, and hearsay.\nAdvocacy and Team Engagement: Clarify how observation room standards safeguard the child and the investigation\, while empowering advocates and MDT partners to support families effectively.\n\nLearning Experience & Format\nDesigned as an engaging\, application-focused workshop\, this training combines core instructional modules with practical case discussion. The session concludes with an interactive panel discussion featuring specialists across Forensic Interviewing\, Child Mental Health\, Trial Prosecution\, and Victim Advocacy\, providing participants the opportunity to examine cross-disciplinary challenges and engage directly in a live Q&A. \nClick HERE to register. \nQuestions? Contact training@cacwa.org.
