Safety, Healing & Hope: A Candid Conversation About Sibling Abuse
Speaker:
Jacqueline Page, Psy.D.
Description:
This session is designed to be a conversation about the realities of sibling sexual abuse. What we know about its prevalence, barriers to reporting and impact of the abuse will be highlighted including the need to recognize the potential impact on us as the professionals involved in cases of sibling sexual abuse. The importance of a proactive, collaborative response will be emphasized. The core of the conversation will be on the dilemmas, challenges and questions commonly raised by or encountered by professionals working with cases involving sibling sexual abuse. Decisions about separation and its impact will specifically be addressed and a continuum approach to reunification will be discussed.
The goal of the session is to present some information about what we know (and don’t know) about sibling sexual abuse, provide updates of some recent efforts in the field, examine common challenges and questions and offer some thoughts about a proactive, collaborative response that supports safety, healing and hope.
